Graduating M.A.(Hons) in Geography in 1990 Elspeth went on to secure an M.Sc. in Geographic Information Systems from the University of Edinburgh.

At Edinburgh Elspeth met her future husband, fellow board member and MegaSorcery co-founder Adrian Tear.

Elspeth first worked for Lothian Regional Council helping plan school catchment areas before taking a job with Unisys working on the System 9 GIS in London and Toronto.

After Unisys Elspeth worked for 10 years at the Office for National Statistics as a Senior Researcher in several departments including the Longitudinal Study and Geography Departments (London and Titchfield).

Elspeth is currently studying for a Ph.D. in Historical Geography in between helping to manage the family farm on Bute.
