Having built a site to cover the 1997 UK General Election whilst at Business Geographics, Adrian Tear was instrumental in creating a site to cover the 2001 UK General Election in a partnership between his new company Lead Hat Limited and the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

This time round, with improved technology, the site was hosted on load-balanced web servers talking to a Microsoft SQL Server database.

To cover the anticipated 'peak load' problem on results night the site was architected very largely as static HTML, controlled and output by a dynamic ColdFusion based content management system.

Legal problems at the time prevented Lead Hat Limited from claiming the credit due for project managing, collating and publishing the various streams of maps and data. That balance can now be redressed.
